High-Tatras
The High Tatras are the nicest region of travel hustle in Slovakia with ideal conditions for high-mountain walking, climbing, skiing, recreation. Their long ridge is the northern most and highest part of the entire Carpathian system, whose lenght is 1200 km. Almost in the centre of the range lies the highest summit, Gerlach Peak (2655 m). Visitors to High Tatras have a wide choice of accommodation. The town can offer upto 12,900 beds for visitors to the region. The type of accommodation ranges from the classic and luxurious old fashioned hotels built at the beginning of the 20th century to the famous Slovakian Spa hotels and modern Sorea hotel net. Additionally, there are a wealth of family-run Pensions and private homes providing a very high standard of tourist accommodation. The main seasons are between July to September, Christmas time and the winter school holiday break between February and March. The Tatra Information Board (TIK) at Stary Smokovec and Štrbske Pleso can provide additional tourist information and have the facility to pre-book accommodation for visitors to the region. The year´s visiting was 20 000 persons after the World War 2, but in 80´ it was already 4 millions in year. Nowadays the High Tatras belong to the most visited areas in Slovakia.
